American Songster

American Songster
Writing songs every day
about hating the Winter
about Flowers in May
American Songster
Writing songs every night
Dreaming up music
To him it feels right

He makes ends meet
by working odd jobs
Sometimes he’s happy
Sometimes he sobs
He enters contests
Wants the grand prize
American Songster
So creative and wise

American Songster
Unknown for now
He’s gonna make it
He doesn’t know how
He doesn’t know when
He writes ’cause it’s fun
He writes for himself
and it’s for everyone

He makes ends meet
by working odd jobs
Sometimes he’s happy
Sometimes he sobs
Notepads are filled up
The talent is there
American Songster
recording in his lair.

2017

Song Notes: This one is inspired by people like Daniel Johnston (before he became well known) and many others, like me who write and write and write and who knows when they’ll make it but they have to keep going no matter what. It’s just in their blood. This is for all my homies who are also American Songsters. Hang in there ladies and gents. We’ll all get there in the end.
