Light

She looks out the window but not at anything
And she dreams of how it used to be back then
Negotiating with her brain about what transpired
And thinks about driving up to see him again

She knows it’s a pattern that repeats and repeats
She can’t help her attraction to his everlasting heat

There’s a light in him
That helps her find her way
There’s a light in him
That gets her through the day
And even though she tries
To break away from him
It’s ongoing struggle
It’s a goddamn fight
To abandon his light

She lives in an apartment with a friend and her kitten
And spaces as she binge-watches her favorite shows
She obsesses about him as she tangles in the sheets
It’s a heartbreaking war inside nobody else knows

She reads and she sees it’s an unhealthy addiction
But she can’t help but see beyond their friction

There’s a light in him
That helps her find her way
There’s a light in him
That gets her through the day
And even though she tries
To break away from him
It’s ongoing struggle
It’s a goddamn fight
To abandon his light

She tries and tries with all her might
But she can’t seem to get that boy
Off her mind every day and night
It’s like there’s no end in sight
She sees a side of him that’s bright
Her feelings she cannot hide
She no longer has any pride
But he’s better in her light

He’s better in her light
