I’m Big on You

I’m big on watchin’ NASCAR
I’m big on my tractor too
I’m big on sandlot baseball
And I’m big on you
I’m big on fishin’ holes
I’m big on barbecue
I’m big on backyard football
And I’m big on you

I’m big on brews after work
I’m big on real slow dances
I’m big on takin’ big chances
Big on doin’ the right thing
I’m big on mem’ries we’re makin’
How my hands are now shakin’
I hope you’re big on me enough
to wear this big ol’ diamond ring

I’m big on your laughter
I’m big on their smiles
As you walk into the room
I’m big your cuddles
I’m big on your snuggles
And your favorite perfume
I’m big on your walk
And that way you talk
I swear it melts my heart
I’m big on your jokes
I’m big on your folks
How you’re so damn smart

Most of all I’m big on
Those big blue eyes ‘n
I’ll protect us til all
the rivers run dry
You’re like big fireworks
On the Fourth of July
My oh my

I’m big on your laughter
I’m big on their smiles
As you walk into the room
I’m big your cuddles
I’m big on your snuggles
And your favorite perfume
I’m big on your walk
And that way you talk
I swear it melts my heart
I’m big on your jokes
I’m big on your folks
How you’re so damn smart

I’m big on mem’ries we’re makin’
How my hands are now shakin’
I hope you’re big on me enough
to wear this big ol’ diamond ring

You’re my big dream
That keeps comin’ true
Are you big on me
Like I’m big on you

I wanna live years
I know I won’t ever regret
All I wanna be is the one
Who will love you all my life
Baby, will you be my wife?
Will you be my wife?
Will you be my wife?

I’m Not Them

They say I’m wastin’ time with you, my dear
They think they’ve got you pegged, it’s so clear
You leavin’ me is the last thing I fear
’Cause I’m not them and neither are you

I know the ins and outs of all that you are
You’re my rock, my foundation, my shining star
You let me drive around town in our nicer car
’Cause I’m not them and neither are you

I know you better than I know myself
Us meeting was a good surprise
We may not always get along
Of some things, I’m wrong
But there’s truth in those crystal blue eyes

They say there’s time to leave you in the lurch
But we said our vows in a little white church
And I know I don’t have to go out and search
’Cause I’m not them and neither are you

Miss You, Babe

The girls won’t leave me alone
They wanna know when you’ll be home
I said I’d ask cause I didn’t know
We miss you, babe
We miss you, babe

They wish I could cook like you
And I really don’t know what to do
You should know the truth
We miss you, babe
We miss you, babe

Our little one –
She reads to me at night
But she puts up a fight
She knows something’s not right
And the older one,
She understands you may be not coming back
She knows what happened on the train tracks
And sees me have nightly panic attacks

All I know is we hope you can wake
We’ll celebrate with a chocolate cake
I don’t know how much more I can take
We miss you, babe
We miss you, babe

But if you soon rise to Heaven above
Know I’ll take care of them, my love

The girls won’t leave me alone
They wanna call you on the phone
So you would always know
We miss you, babe
We miss you, babe

They wish I could be like you
And I really don’t know what to do
You should know the truth
They miss you, babe
I miss you, babe
Oh,
We miss you, babe
We miss you, babe
Miss you, babe

Songs, not Poems

I write the songs
That no one wants to hear
People are indifferent
To my concern and fear
About my former lovers
About guilt inside my heart
For mucking up so many times
Now I don’t no where to start

I write the songs
That no one wants to play
They’re all writing theirs,
I’m not sure what to say
About what I’ll do if I have
to throw this dream away
It’s too late to turn back now
Oh, dear you know I can’t stay

There are people to write with
Somewhere I have to be
And if you can’t cut me loose
Soon I’ll be breaking free
I’m hearing a call within
They’re voices from my soul
You’ll try your hardest, babe
They’ll never give you control

I write the songs
That I don’t understand
I open my heart up to them
And then they guide my hand
On the pages in my notebook
And the keystrokes on my phone
This is what I signed up for when
they wouldn’t leave me alone

It will all be worth it,
Love, they’ve assured me
The reward will end up to be
Much like what comes from
inside a fully grown tree
All I hear them say, is you’ll see
The effect of your unpaused yes
When I got down on one knee
They promise real happiness
For our growing family

Khaki Wacky Woman of Mine

When we’re out
on the town
On a pub crawl
during the day
She likes leerin’
at Military men
And listens to
what they say

And she dances
with them all
She leads them
by the hand
On those shiny
parquet floors
To the music
from the bands

That khaki wacky woman of mine
That khaki wacky woman of mine
She don’t like to drink with me
Where she’s really meant to be
Is where she can truly shine
Havin’ fun with all those guys
That khaki wacky woman of mine

At a Barn Party
on a country farm
Where we cut loose
with some pals
I’ll be gettin’
myself some grub
And she’ll be
talkin’ with the gals

An old Dixie song
plays over the speakers
And she’s hollerin’
Then she hoots
And starts flirting
With men wearin’
Shiny black patent
leather boots

That khaki wacky woman of mine
That khaki wacky woman of mine
I’m ok with her dancin’ by their side
She comes before my ego & pride
Cause I know she has to shine
With all those hunky country guys
That khaki wacky woman of mine

‘Cause I know when we’re home
We’ll get under our bamboo sheets
She’ll be rarin’ to keep on groovin’
Like those FGL bangin’ beats
So we get busy like little beavers
She’s better than butter on bread
It helps us both be better lovers
At least that’s what she said

That khaki wacky woman of mine
That khaki wacky woman of mine
The only place she dances with me
Is where she makes great sweet tea
Now, I’m not wearin’ camouflage
As I give her deep tissue massage
She was diagnosed as Borderline
But she’ll always be my Valentine
That khaki wacky woman of mine

That khaki wacky woman of mine
That khaki wacky woman of mine
That khaki wacky woman of mine
That khaki wacky woman of mine

Lyric Notes: I got the idea from an old list of slang terms from the 40’s. I figure it’s a Retro Tune with a Old Time Big Band. I love that era.

More Cowbell

Keep telling yourself I want you
Like I’ve wanted nobody else
Keep telling yourself I need you
Got your picture on my shelf
Keep telling yourself the only one
Who I want right beside me
Whether we’re in heaven or a living hell
Cause you’d be right as raindrops
I need you like songs need more cowbell

We met when we were younger
Your bright blue eyes hooked me in good
Your laughter kept me in stitches
That’s why I’ve done everything I could
To keep you close, to love you the most
Because I wanted you to be forever mine
Your kisses taste better than any beer
Or any bottle of Napa Valley wine

So
Keep telling yourself I want you
Like I’ve wanted nobody else
Keep telling yourself I need you
Got your picture on my shelf
Keep telling yourself the only one
Who I want right beside me
Whether we’re in heaven or a living hell
Cause you’d be right as raindrops
I need you like songs need more cowbell

When we’re out on the country road
And when we’re cuddlin’ on the couch
When we’re hangin out in our backyard
When I’m feelin’ like Oscar the Grouch
You give me light n lovin & turtledovin’
And with just one passionate kiss
I feel like I can slay every single demon
With your peace and unremitting bliss

Keep telling yourself I want you
Like I’ve wanted nobody else
Keep telling yourself I need you
Got your picture on my shelf
Keep telling yourself the only one
Who I want right beside me
Whether we’re in heaven or a living hell
Cause you’d be right as raindrops
I need you like songs need more cowbell

I need you like songs need more cowbell

More than a Hookup

She and I were friends back in high school
We went bowling and hung out all the time
She was one of my best friends back then
She was my confidant, my partner in crime

She went off to study theatre out in Eugene
I stayed back home and wrote song after song
And we went out for my twenty second birthday
Then we did something she thought was wrong

Cause I wanted more than just a hookup
I wanted more than just a one night stand
I wanted to be there for her more than ever
I wanted to kiss her often and hold her hand
But she said she didn’t want to risk losing me
She said it would hurt less if I let her go
She said she wanted to stand on her own
And said it would be best if I did that too
It hurt like she just stabbed me in my gut
And I didn’t know then what I would do
Cause I wanted more than just a hookup
Then I found out she was still pining for you

You met when you were at Oregon State
She liked your wisdom and your mentorship
You were a guy she talked about so often
It was like she was tempted to take a dip
In that warm, steamy hot tub at the hotel
With you kissing her and holding her tight
She resisted and later moved on from you
As Johnny Cash would say she saw the light

Cause you’d want more than just a hookup
You’d want more than just a one night stand
You’d want to be there for her more than ever
You’d want to kiss her often and hold her hand
She’d say she didn’t want to risk losing you
She’d say it would hurt less if you let her go
She’d say she wanted to stand on her own
She’d say it would be best if you did that too
It would hurt like she put a knife in your neck
You wouldn’t know then how to act or be
Cause you wanted more than just a hookup
Then you’d find out she was still pining for me

I went on to find others who were just like her
Who’d want me to be their lover then go away
I was a sensitive but average frustrated chump
and met women who’d always keep me at bay
Then I found someone who liked me so much
We weren’t friends before, so there was an intent
To court and see if we were meant to be together
And I don’t regret any moment with her I spent

Saying I wanted more than just a hookup
I wanted more than just a single night stand
I wanted to be there for her more than ever
I wanted to kiss her often and hold her hand
She said she didn’t want to risk losing me
She said it would hurt more if she let me go
She said she wanted us to stand together
to face the storms and the sunsets as one
And we ended up in a Catholic church in LA
We got married and it all worked out ok
Cause we both wanted more than a hookup
We still adore and love each other to this day

We still adore and love each other to this day

Lighthearted Love

Lighthearted love
is all they wanted
Lighthearted love
like a summer breeze
Lighthearted love
was all they needed
So they’d have
Lighthearted memories

They met on the internet
in a chatroom at four am
Both couldn’t sleep a wink
and exhausted from the gym
They were young and striving
on opposite sides of the States
But had something in common
They were tired of dead-end dates

Lighthearted love
is all they wanted
Lighthearted love
like a summer breeze
Lighthearted love
was all they needed
So they’d have
Lighthearted memories

They shared their horror stories
That night they couldn’t sleep
Then soon it was morning
She didn’t think he was a creep
They logged in the next night
Happy the other was online
It seemed to be predestined
Like it was all from God’s design

Lighthearted love
was what had begun
Lighthearted love
Growing in their hearts
Lighthearted love
was all that mattered
Even though
they were many miles apart

And the next few weeks they shared
their life stories across the miles
They told each other their secrets
and they confided about their trials
So on one sunny day half way
Between Manhattan and LA
They met in Central Illinois
Shared a meal and bottle of Cabernet

Lighthearted love
is what they had then
Lighthearted love
without drama or strife
Lighthearted love
is what they share now
He’s her good husband
and she’s his great wife

and she’s his great wife

When She Walks Away

When she walks away
Don’t you shed a tear
Don’t you stay up all night
Don’t you fret and fear
Don’t you chase after her
Don’t you beg her to stay
Just give her patience and grace
When she walks away

She’s only thinkin’ ’bout the others
Who did her wrong all her life
And she’s gettin’ frustrated
As she’s tryin’ to be a good wife
Try to see it through her eyes
That’s just the way she works
She’s a stubborn country girl, and
knows you’re not one of them jerks

When she walks away
Don’t you feel so bad
Just trust me, my son
As I’ll always be her Dad
She’s just like her Mom
Back in those early days
She needs time and space
When she walks away

She’s only thinkin’ bout the others
Who did her wrong all her life
And she’s gettin’ frustrated
As she’s tryin’ to be a good wife
Try to see it through her eyes
That’s just the way she works
She’s a stubborn country girl,
Knows you’re not like those jerks

It’s one of her inborn traits
Especially when she’s wrong
So hang in there, kiddo
This ain’t no country song
Where the girl leaves the boy
To go drink, dance and play
She’s fighting for your love
When she walks away

Don’t get twisted up in her game
When she walks away

When she walks away
