The Admirer

It’s easier for him to love you from a distance
Cause he’ll never know your quirks and flaws
He won’t see you day after day
as you and I struggle to find our way
He’s just hooked on how it all was

You have an admirer, he’s told you over the phone
To me, it looks as if he’s thrown you a bone
And he’s just lonely, he can’t meet the right one
But that’s his problem cause we ain’t done

You see,
It’s easier for him to love you from a distance
Cause he’ll never know your quirks and flaws
He won’t see you night after night
as you turn off that bedside light
and how you’re dealing with menopause

So your dear admirer, he’ll plead and he’ll beg
you to leave me but it’ll cost an arm and leg
Oh, don’t you consider his proposals to you
unless you really want us to be through

You see,
It’s easier for him to love you from a distance
To admire you for things he doesn’t see
He doesn’t know all the stuff we’ve been doing
Or how much you matter to me
He doesn’t know how much we’ve bonded now
or at what lengths I’ll go to not set you free

Avid Sports Fan

He’s there wearing the home team jersey
Whether it’s football, basketball or baseball
He takes pictures of himself with his buddies
Don’t remember the last time we were on a call

He’s an avid sports fan
He’s having way too much fun
An avid sports fan
Doesn’t care who lost or won
He’s just there for the tailgates
With old friends to socialize
He’s an avid sports fan
Until the day or night he dies

He goes to Hawaii with his real beauty
Where they golf every day in the sunshine
They live in a country club neighborhood
He’s got a cellar full of collectible wine

He’s an avid sports fan
That’s what he’s all about
An avid sports fan
A loyal one without a doubt
He’s always got a smile on his face
And twinkles in his eyes
He’s an avid sports fan
Until the day or night he dies

On the course
In the parking lot
At the stadium VIP bar
He never seems to work
A lavish life he’s got
And he’s come so far

He’s an avid sports fan
He’s having way too much fun
An avid sports fan
Doesn’t care who lost or won
He’s just there for the tailgates
With old friends to socialize
He’s an avid sports fan
Until the day or night he dies

Twenty Years Is Not Enough

So long ago, you and I decided to meet
When I saw you, my heart skipped a beat
And I was late getting there to you
You waited but I’m not sure you knew

From that first moment you were in my view
I was nervous and I tried to keep my cool
You were open to the rest of my broken heart
It was time for something special to start
So after many years of ups and downs
A twisted ride but you still kept me around
What we have is easier than tough
And my love, twenty years is not enough

And if it seems like I’m bitter and oh so cold
Maybe it’s because you’ve never seen me old
If I can’t find the solutions you’re looking for
I hope you don’t decide to walk out the door

Cause from that moment you were in my view
I was nervous and I tried to keep my cool
You were open to the rest of my broken heart
It was time for something special to start
And after many years of ups and downs
A twisted ride but you still kept me around
What we have is easier than rough
So, my love, twenty years is not enough

I wanna be there when our daughter gets married to the boy who never gave up on her
And thinks to himself if he’s a lucky man, they’ll be close like we are and always were

Cause from the moment she was in her view
He was nervous and he tried to keep his cool
And she was open to the rest of his young heart
And they knew something special would start
Then after many years of ups and downs
A twisted ride but she’ll keep him around
I’ll pray to God it will be easier than tough
And hope they know forever is just enough

Topics That Trigger Me

If you wanna know, I’ll tell you
the topics that trigger me
So you can hold your tongue
When you’re hellbent & angry

So you won’t use them as weapons
You’ll know better and refrain
From devastating me with them
From causing me unfixable pain

All because I trusted you completely
With topics that trigger me
All because I trusted you completely
With topics that trigger me

They may seem trivial to you
the topics that trigger me
They hurt like a sucker punch
Then I’ll wanna break free

So please, don’t use’em as weapons
You’ll know better and refrain
From dismantling with them
From causing nonreversible pain

All because I trusted you completely
With topics that trigger me
All because I trusted you completely
With topics that trigger me

Promise me you won’t purposely
Shoot me with these memories
Promise me that and I’ll be yours
Like protected land and pine trees
Like protected land and pine trees

All because I trusted you completely
With topics that trigger me
All because I trusted you completely
With topics that trigger me

Please don’t trigger me

Please Help

I stared in horror at my wounded leg
She said forcefully I’d have to beg
I pleaded for mercy for her to let me go
How I made it here I’ll never know

So I need your help now
Before I go back there
Even if it’s only
The shortest prayer
I hear an angel far away
But I can’t make out
What she’s trying to say
Maybe it’s a warning
A message to keep running
And to never return
And to never return
Please help

I didn’t know her, we met in a bar
I was dizzy when we got in her car
I thought she’d kill me in no time
She’s committing crime after crime

So I need your help now
Before I go back there
Even if it’s only
The shortest prayer
I hear an angel far away
But I can’t make out
What she’s trying to say
Maybe it’s a warning
A message to keep running
And to never return
And to never return
Please help

They’re all still inside
She’s got a collection
Of men I didn’t know
I can’t get rid of
The stench in my nose
Now I’ll never smell a rose

So I need your help now
Before she finds me
Even if it’s only
A crawlspace, I’ll be
Listening to the angel
I’ll try to make out
What she’s trying to say
More than just a warning
A message to keep running
And to never return
And to never return
Please help

Please help

Give Me Some Hugs

Her neck is red
And mine is too
Her collar’s white
And mine is blue
I’ve been a victim
She’s not the one
Who shot me twice
With a silenced gun

She watched over me
Since I’ve been here
She’s helped me with
Depression and fear
She’s treating me with
Her smiles and the drugs
I just wish she could
Give me some hugs

These sheets are clean
The food’s just ok
Haven’t seen my family
Since the other day
I know I can’t leave yet
I have no yearning to
Cause I’d never see her
What would I ever do

She’s watched over me
Since I’ve been here
She’s helped me with
Depression and fear
She’s treating me with
Her smiles and the drugs
I just wish she could
Give me some hugs

The nurse I needed
My angel who’s alive
She’s a perfect wave
A flawless swan dive
When they release me
I’ll be needing her so
But she’ll never be mine
This, I already know

Yet she’s watched over me
Since I’ve been here
She’s helped me with
Depression and fear
She’s healing me with
Her smiles and the drugs
I just wish she could
Give me some hugs

I just wish she would
Give me some hugs

Queen of Beer

When she died
All the family rejoiced
She was in so much pain
They did a long stein-hoist
They cheered and hollered
They were anxious to hear
What they were inheriting
From the true Queen of Beer

There was cash
All the jewels and homes
And the antique furniture
Her volumes of poems
They drank all the whiskey
They didn’t cry a single tear
Her death was a blessing
To heirs of the Queen of Beer

As they read the will they wept
But they accepted it with grace
She was buried in a simple coffin
In a gown made of linen and lace
Just a cross was her grave marker
In the town where she was raised
The Christian school she attended
Were surprised and amazed
When they opened their envelope
And read the long note she wrote
They would receive her whole estate
Except the Summer Home and Boat

They all stayed Labor Day Weekend
But went sailing the following Spring
The adults had grown tired of the tradition
But the kids thought it was everything

They found her stash
In an large oak and cedar chest
They chose to not report it
To keep it secret would be best
Let’s just say they had enough
To maintain the home every year
They’re grateful forever for being
The heirs of the Queen of Beer

The Matriarch and Queen of Beer

Rowdy Rednecks

Get yourself a rowdy redneck
To liven up the rest of your days
Fall in love with a rowdy redneck
To change your Yankee ways

They don’t compromise their terms
They laugh more than they cry
Marry a rugged rowdy redneck
They’ll be loyal to ya ‘til they die

Befriend a bunch’a rowdy rednecks
They’ll always have your back
Get drunk with rowdy rednecks
But don’t make fun of the gun rack

Or they’ll snap you like a twig
They’re moody but they’re fun
Oh, hang with the Rowdy Rednecks
You’ll find they’re not so dumb

They’ll teach you how to fish
They’ll beat your ass in darts
They’ll tell ya filthy jokes
And laugh at burps ‘n farts

You’ll find ‘em whoopin’ it up
In the town where you are
Oh, they’re the best,
Those Rowdy Rednecks –
Just Google “Local Country Bar”

They’ll be gettin’ hammered there
At your local crazy country bar

Yeehaw!

American Woman and Man

He takes trains, planes, trucks or cars
Depending on where he travels to
He’s got his briefcase full of catalogs
Sales is something he’s born to do
He sells to people looking for answers
He sells for checks to send to his wife
Now, he’s just a money making machine
But he’s not having a wonderful life

So no wonder he drinks
No wonder he wants to heal his heart
Drinking at the affluent hotel bars
While he and his family live apart
He likes going home when he can
But he also loves living on the road
So no wonder he drinks
He’s the one carrying the load

And his wife back home understands
She keeps the house, does the chores
She knows her role and does it well
Washes the dishes, cleans the floors
She carefully manages their household
So the children can focus on school
But all the while she’s missing him
Her dedicated but exhausted fool

So no wonder she drinks
No wonder she wants to heal her heart
Card games and cocktails with friends
Ubers to and from the mini-mart
She likes seeing him when he’s there
But she loves him staying on the road
So no wonder she drinks
She’s a prisoner in their abode

They’re very different people
But they’re pretty much the same
They’ve been living like this for years
Since they’ve shared their last name

So no wonder they drink
Trapped themselves in their roles
Doing their best to provide for their kids
But it seems like they’ve sold their souls
They dream of sending them to college
They’re working as hard as they can
No wonder both drink
That American woman and man
That American woman and man
