Downtown Santa Cruz

There’s a man singing in the alcove
His protest songs are pretty deep
His voice would make a crocodile
Lay right over on his back and weep

There’s a homeless lady in the street
Her bike fell and she barks
And the police car drives up close
Then pulls over and parks

Downtown Santa Cruz
It’s a place I love to be
Downtown Santa Cruz
It means so much to me
Downtown Santa Cruz
So unlike all the rest
Downtown Santa Cruz
Of all downtowns, it’s the best

There’s Bookshop SC where I browse
their magazine racks and shop for books
There’s Camouflage and I’ll go in there
When I want to get some dirty looks

Walnut Avenue is my breakfast spot
Where Cooper House was, is O’Neill’s
and over at the Nickelodeon
is where I feel all my good feels

Downtown Santa Cruz
It’s a place I love to go
Downtown Santa Cruz
It’s awesome, don’t cha know
Downtown Santa Cruz
It's even better than Oahu
If it was ever demolished
I don’t know where I’d go or do

At the Catalyst I’ve seen many shows
Like Evan Dando and Matthew Sweet
Seeing Pearl Jam’s secret show there
Sure was a big ol’ treat

Logos and Streetlight are great places
To buy used vinyl, movies, and cd’s
Pizza My Heart is where I’ll be at Midnight
Eating a slice of pepperoni and cheese

Downtown Santa Cruz
It’s a place I love to be
Downtown Santa Cruz
It means so much to me
Downtown Santa Cruz
So unlike all the rest
Downtown Santa Cruz
Of all downtowns, it’s the best
Downtown Santa Cruz
Of all downtowns, it’s the best.

2017
I worked as a Downtown Hospitality Guide in the 90's and I know it well. Of course I had to write a tribute to my favorite place to go & be. Yay DTSC!
